One can say that this is the most awaited album in the recent times because of its many unique specialties. Legendary director Yash Chopra joins hands with two other legendary artists in A R Rahman and Gulzar saab. This is the first time these legends have come together for a film. One can only expect what kind of magic they end up creating for this album. After a lot of hype and promotion these songs have finally released into the market. Let’s see how they are.
Song 1: Challa
Singers: Rabbi
Lyrics: Gulzar

Analysis: The album begins with the song ‘Challa’ sung by Punjabi artist Rabbi. Challa is a total Punabi song with complete Punjabi lyrics in it. Soothing guitar based sounds and some jazz beats surround this song. Rahman also gives a classical touch to the song in between. Although the song sounds good, this might not be liked by everyone because of its Punjabi lyrics. The song will surely grow on you, once you listen to it twice or thrice.

Song2: Saans:
Singers: Shreya Ghoshal, Mohit Chauhan
Lyrics: Gulzar

Analysis: The album continues with the song ‘Saans’. A total romantic number with some heavy beats in between. Shreya Ghoshal does a wonderful job with her soothing voice. Mohit is apt choice for these type of songs. Some meaningful and innovative poetry by Gulzar only adds to the essence of this song. Saans is a typical romantic number which you would love to hear all over again. This is by far one of the best songs of this album. Once you see the stunning visuals and the sizzling chemistry between SRK and Katrina, you would love this song more.

Song 3: Ishq Shava
Singers: Raghav Mathur, Shilpa Rao.
Lyrics: Gulzar

Analysis: The third song in the album is Ishq Shava, which is a full on Arabic number. Though its lyrics are in Hindi, the song has a total Arabic feel and beats to it. Shilpa Rao does a great job with her unique voice. Rahman makes use of the complete range of Arabic instruments with Ishq Shava. He nicely intervenes Arabic instruments with Indian beats. On the whole Ishq Shava is a total peppy number which is surely going to rock.

Song 4: Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Singers: Javed Ali,
Lyrics: Gulzar

Analysis: The fourth song in the album is the most awaited title song Jab Tak Hai Jaan. A R Rahman brings out the best in him with this song. An interesting mix of Indian Qawwali beats, this song is romantically sung by Javed Ali. Gulzar’s lyrics are meaningful as the song has a soothing feel for your ears. The way the song starts and the high pitch that Javed Ali takes in the middle is quite interesting. Jab Tak Hai Jaan is one song which would be liked instantly. A true and typical Yash Chopra romantic song.

Song 5: Saans
Singers: Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Gulzar

Analysis: Next song in the album is the reprise of the earlier song Saans. Once again sung by Shreya Ghoshal, this song reminds you of ‘Aye Ajnabee’ from the film ‘Dil Se’. This song has very less beats and Shryea sings it in a very dull and low tone. Pain and heart break oozes out with this song. On the whole this is a kind of montage song which shows the grief in the film and also take the story forward.

Song 6: Jab Tak Hai Jaan
Singers: Shahrukh Khan
Lyrics: Yash Chopra

Analysis: The album continues with the instrumental song Jab Tak Hai Jaan. This theme has some awesome poetry by Yash Chopra. Shahrukh recites this wonderful piece of poetry in his true passionate romantic voice. This theme has A R Rahman’s stamp written all over it. He starts this theme with some romantic feel and takes it to a high pitch at the end. In a way you can say that this song lets you know the entire feel of the film. This is a true Yash Chopra style romantic theme which all his films have.

Song 7: Ishq Shava- Instrumental.

Analysis: The album finally ends with the instrumental Ishq Shava. This is a total drum based instrumental. Performed by Shivamani, this has all the true colors of a reggae beats form the carebian islands. A fast based instrumental which you can totally give a miss.

Vedict: On the whole Jab Tak Hai Jaan is one album which has Yash Chopra’s feel all over it. One can say this is not one of A R. Rahman’s best work or you can also put it in such a way that, Yash Chopra’s romantic feel has taken over A R Rahman’s creative genius. He plays it safe and goes with Yash Chopra’s conviction.
Jab Tak hai Jaan, Challa and Ishq Shava are the best picks. Though this album does not have a chart buster song, it will slowly and slowly grow on you. Those who love romantic ballads and some meaningful lyrics ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ is surely recommended.
