Nani, Samantha’s romantic entertainer ‘Yeto Vellipoindi Manasu’ under the direction of Gautam Menon is getting release today. The film recently completed its censor formalities and received ‘U’ certificate from the censor board. Music maestro Ilayaraja’s tunes are already having spellbinding impact on music lovers. YVM is a trilingual titled Neethane En Ponvasantham (Tamil) features Jeeva & Assi Nabbey Poore Sau (Hindi) features Aditya Roy Kapoor.
About YVM plot, it histories through the complicated love life of Varun (Nani) and Nithya (Samantha) who knows each other from childhood. They go through various phases of life, through lots of rough patches and will they unite after all their disarrays forms the crux. The film tries to capture some interesting moments in their lives.
Samantha who has earned the lucky mascot tag these days after bagging 100% success rate with films like ‘Ye Maya Chesave’, ‘Brindavanam’, ‘Dhookudu’ and ‘Eega’ continues the formula behind her success. It’s impossible to imagine this film with anyone other than Samantha in the lead role in YVM. She looks beautiful in every frame. Nani comes up with a neat performance. His timing is superb and his mannerisms gel well with the concept of the film. Krishnudu is adequate as the Nani’s friend. Rests of the characters are supporting.
Scenes I liked:
* Smoky Nani Entrance – Samantha Intro at Culturals
*School time Flash back
* Single take Interval scene
* Climax Scene
A touch of authenticity was naturally expected and Gautam Menon doesn’t disappoint in the first half, but post interval mediocrity kicks in, luckily feel good climax saves YVM in the second half. The main problem is that the director has not been able to maintain consistency in the narrative. Some of the sequences look so unskillful.  “Yeto Vellipoindi Manasu” could have been a cult film, but the slackened pace and dragging second half mar the film.
Music by Maestro Ilayaraja is mesmerizing. But Gautam failed to utilize Ilayaraja’s best for BGM. Cinematography of the film is nice. The editing could have been crispier esp, in the second half.
The starting of the film is superb. But the film gets interesting as it progresses with slow narration. The plus points of the film are cute moments, Samantha, cinematography and the music. On the flip side slow narration and drags in between. Yeto Vellipoindi Manasu is a good watch. It’s a movie which has got the entire feel that is required for a romantic film. As mentioned YVM is a very simple-straight-uncomplicated-close to heart and predictable love story with romantic feel sprinkled all over it.
