REVIEW : AJAB GAZABB LOVE – NOT THAT INTERESTING

Mega producer Vashu Bhagnani is always know for making entertaining films. But off late, he is producing films only with his son. So continuing with that trend, he is back with his comedy entertainer Ajaz Gajab Love. Starring Jacky Bhagnani, this film also features Nidhi Subbaih, Kiron Kher and Arjun Rampal. On the other hand after directing two block buster hits in Dhoom and Dhoom 2, Sanjay Gadhvi chooses an comedy caper which has hit the screens today. Lets see how it is.

Story:

Rajveer Singh Garewal is the son of business tycoon Yashvardhan Garewal, the richest man in Maharashtra. Rajveer is highly qualified and works as an engineer with his father. One fine day he comes across Madhuri Singh(Nidhi Subbaih) and falls head over heels for her. But to his bitter truth, he comes to know that Madhuri hates rich people and always revolts against them. So in order to make her fall in love with him, Rajveer introduces himself to her as a bike mechanic, and slowly gets closer to her.

As time movies on, Madhuri too falls in love with Rajveer, and proposes him to marry her. She also lays a condition to meet his parents first, and then go ahead with the wedding. Now a confused Rajveer is left with no alternative, but to also convince his parents to act as poor people. How does Rajveer convince his parents? How does the whole family who are ultra-rich, act as poor people? and How does Rajveer manage to win his lady love? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

Ajab Gazabb Love, which is a remake of a south hit, is slightly altered and set according to Bollywood nativity. Arjun Ramplal, who plays the heroines brother does an excellent job in the film. He has a double role in the film, which he carries out nicely. Though he has less screen time, Arjun Rampal shows huge variation in his character. Jacky Bhagnani has worked hard on his dances and acting skills in this film.

Interval bang is decent and the comedy quotient is good in the second half. Arshab Warsi surprises us with his cameo, and sets the screen on fire. Kiron Kher also does a decent job with her comedy. The song Boom Boom comes as welcome change and is the best part of the movie.

Minus Points:

Since the story is based on the girl, the heroine should have been strong. Nishi Subbaih, who makes her debut is not justified for her role. She does not carry much confidence and has not enough charm to carry the entire film. As the movie is designed as a comedy caper, there is not much comedy int the film. The film sometimes drifts from its plot and has some boring scenes right throughout.

The film on the whole is not that entertaining, to that shown in the trailers. First half of the film is a bit slow , when compared to the second. Chemistry between the lead pair is totally missing. Arif Zakari, who plays business tycoon Yash Vardhan Garewal doesn’t seem that effective.

Technical Aspects:

Songs in this movie are decent enough and the song ‘Boom Boom’ is quite good and shot well too. Dialogues are simple and so is the editing. Came work is a major bonus and all the scenes and songs have been shot lavishly. The whole set up of the movie looks fresh. The art department manages to do a decent job showing good contrast between the rich and poor.

Screenplay of the film is a bit dull and could have been a lot stronger. This film could have been lot better if Sanjay Gadhvi could have added more comedy quotient and some funny sequences. Sanjay’s direction is mediocre and lacks that knock out punch.

Verdict:

On the whole Ajab Gazabb Love is one film, which is good only in bits and pieces. Decent songs and some passable scenes are some plus points. On the flip side, if the film had a better heroine and some added dose of comedy, this movie could have been far better. Finally, this film can only be watched if you have nothing else to do.
