Remaking south films is the current trend in Bollywood right now. After remaking Tamil super hit Singham, Ajay Devgan is now back with Son of Sardar. This film is the remake of Telugu super hit Maryada Ramanna. Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla play other lead roles in this action entertainer. Music of this film is given by Himesh Reshamiya and after the initial promotions and publicity, the music has hit the market. Let’s see how the album is.
Song 1: Son of Sardar
Singers: Himesh Reshamiya, Aman Thrikha
Lyrics: Shabbir Ahmed
Analysis: The album begins with the song ‘Son of Sardar’ sung by Aman Trikha and Himesh himself. As one would expect this song has a total Punjabi flavor. The Bhangra beats are loud, and lyrics are filled with talks of party-sharty and emcee-beecee. Though nowhere close to the Singh Is King title-song in terms of its catchy-quotient, this is still a time-pass number mainly due to its Desi feel.

Song2: Rani Tu Mai Raja:
Singers: Mika Singh, Yo Yo Honey Singh.
Lyrics: Shabbir Ahmed
Analysis: The album continues with the song ‘Rani Tu Mai Raaja’. This is a full on catchy number, which has a unique feel to it. Mika Singh, who is famous for singing tapori songs, does a splendid job with this song. The sound is a fusion of Desi and western beats with some Punjabi rapping by Yo Yo Honey Singh. You will surely love this song more, after you see the song picturization and the funny dance moves.
Song 3: Po Po
Singers: Vikas Bhalla, Himesh Rehsmiya.
Lyrics: Shabbi Ahmed.
Analysis: The third song in the album is ‘Po Po’ which is a special song featuring Salman Khan and the rest of the cast. Sung by Himesh and pop singer Vikas Bhalla, Po Po reminds you of the basic pop numbers of the 90′s. The song has the basic bhangra beat going right through the song. This song will be liked more after you listen it twice or thrice. Shabbir Ahmed’s lyrics are contemporary as Po Po has the fun and entertaining factor which would make you groove.
Song 4: Bichdan
Singers: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan,
Lyrics: Sameer
Analysis: The fourth song in the album is ‘Bichdan’ sung by legendary sufi singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. One of the best songs in the album, Bichdan has some romantic poetry recited by Ajay Devgan. A true montage song, you would connect to it immediately. Though this song has some Punjabi lyrics, they are clear and meaningful. Rahat Khan’s painful voice only adds to the effect of the song, and you will instantly get attracted to this soothing number.
Song 5: Tu Kamaal di Kudi
Singers: Mamta Sharma, Vineet Singh.
Lyrics: Manoj Yadav
Analysis: Next song in the album is Tu Kamaal di Kudi. This is yet another Punjabi number that is a perfect to shake your legs. Mamta Sharma sings this song in a high pitch and Manoj Yadav’s English lyrics only make the song quite interesting. Bhangra and desi beats are yet again intentionally used to make this song highly entertaining.

Song 6: Yeh Jo Halki Halki Khumariya
Singers: Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Lyrics: Shabbir Ahmed
Analysis: The album then movies to ‘Yeh Jo Halki’ song which is once again sung by Rahat Ali. This song is a cake walk for Rahat Fateh Ali as it is a total romantic sufi number. Rahat’s effective and deep voice only gives this number more depth. The total feel of the song is highly romantic and will remind you of Atif Asalm’s film songs, which have the same soothing effect.
Song 7: Kabhi Kabhi Meri Dil Mein’
Analysis: The album finally ends with Ajay Devgan’s theme song Kabhi Kabhi. Styled after the famous Yash Chopra film dialogue, this theme has some interesting words recited by Ajay Devgan. This is a total tribute to the Sikh community, as it hails them in high regards. Interestingly written, this theme has some funny lyrics as well.

On the whole Son of Sardar is one album which is out and out entertaining. A total dhamaal album with a full dose of Punjabi flavor and catchy lyrics. Bichdan, Ran Tu Main Raja, Son of Sardaar, and Yeh Jo Halki are our picks. Himesh Reshamiya has once again given some foot tapping music which is contemporary and also highly entertaining. Go grab your Cd’s now.
